People Behind the Brand: Julie Davidson

In today's people behind the brand, the series where you get to know the Orbis team, we sat down with Julie Davidson, Senior Consultant.

We chatted all about recruitment, living in Miami, the importance of having dedicated time for yourself and her love for creative projects.

Let’s jump in.

Tell us about your journey to Recruitment…

Recruitment was never something I grew up thinking I’d get into.

I went to college and studied International Studies and Chinese, and spent lots of time studying abroad in Asia. Through those experiences, the only thing I knew for sure was I wanted to work with people.

I got into recruitment during the beginning of Covid and the boom of the Miami tech market. Along the way I have met some incredible people and I cannot wait to see what is to come.

What's the best part of the job?

The best part of the job is when you have that ah-ha moment and everything clicks!

When you can find someone an exciting opportunity that advances their lives/careers but also when you can help a client find that rock star they have been looking for.

What's the biggest challenge?

The most challenging part about recruitment is that we are dealing with people. Circumstances may change, and people may have different goals - it's being able to navigate what is happening, how we react and where we can go next!

What is something that you wish you'd known at the start of your career?

Recruitment taught me about all the jobs that I didn't know existed. There are so many interesting paths and opportunities within so many different industries.

Your hobbies include travelling, going to the beach, yoga, gym and cycling which are all common activities that can be found in the Magic Sunshine City. What has it been like living and working in our new Miami office?

I love staying active and being outside.

The first hour or two of my day is always dedicated to myself, whether that is working out or going for a walk. It is so important to prioritise that time so you can show up every day and give 110 per cent for your team, clients, and candidates!

Culturally working in Miami there is a work hard, play hard mentality that exudes that balance.

What would you say is a good recruitment office culture and how would you make colleague relationships both fun and effective?

Having a culture where everyone can crack some jokes, and have a good time, but also put our heads down and buckle in when we have work today. Super important to celebrate the little wins along the way.

In another life, if you weren’t in recruitment, what would you be doing?

In another life, If I weren’t in recruitment, I’d either probably be an event planner or interior designer! I love a good project and bringing things together but also a job where I could show my creative side!
