Let’s go to Austin! The Live Music Capital of the World

We’re incredibly proud of our continuous expansion, particularly into one of our favourite locations: Austin! Hailed for its wonderful weather, delicious food, and also being a buzzing tech hub, Austin has quickly become one of the biggest “hot spots” to live in and continues to grow in popularity, competing with the likes of LA, San Francisco, and NYC.

We’re going to give you the low down of everything you can do in this incredible city, from the best eateries and social scene through to rent prices and the general cost of living.

What’s the city like?

Austin is packed with activities to do, both after work and on the weekends. There are bustling bars and watering holes, and the “crowned jewel” of Austin is the Barton Springs Pool, which is a must-visit.

Austin also has a huge art scene, due to being home to a lot of creatives and individuals working in tech. There are galleries, exhibitions, and immersive experiences in every corner of the city.

Of course, Austin is also home to a number of beautiful landmarks, perfect for your Instagram grid! All satire aside, Austin, like many cities, has something for everyone, whether you’re a party-goer or you prefer a wholesome weekend doing some sightseeing.

Average rent price?

According to ValuePenguin.com, the average rent price is around $1,334 per month, however, this is largely dependent on the apartment size, and whether you choose to rent a room in a shared household. The average rent price equates to only 21.2% of the average income, so it is relative to the salary bandings in Austin, too. This is a much more affordable city in comparison to NYC and San Francisco, where rental prices can be up to 50% more.

Weather (and the wardrobe)

Austin, like the rest of Texas, is known to be hot, hot, hot! You can expect mild winters and blistering summers. If you’re someone who struggles in the cold, then Austin is the place for you. However, be wary of the humidity - light clothing only!

Culture and food

Here are some of our favourite places for you to eat…

  1. Seoulju Korean Kitchen and Bar - Korean food that won’t disappoint.
  2. Bufalina Due - Look no further for delicious pizza.
  3. Quality Seafood Market - Enjoy the classics or the catch of the day.
  4. JewBoy Burgers - Jewish-run burgers and feel-good food.
  5. Garrison - Upmarket, fine dining with great drinks.
  6. Veracruz - Addicted to tacos? This is for you.

Religion and faith

Austin is incredibly multicultural and has local Mosques, Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, Orthodox churches, Christian churches, Catholic churches, and a number of Synagogues.

From an accessibility perspective, these are all dotted around the city and enable individuals to practice their faith whilst living in Austin! Due to it being culturally rich, you can guarantee to find religious communities to practice with.

Getting outdoors

Although Austin is packed with indoor activities, the beautiful weather in the summer should be taken advantage of. Locals are crazy about sports, UT Football and soccer, in particular, thanks to Austin FC!

There are tons of parks and green areas dotted around the city, and you can also go hiking, biking, and kayaking if you’re a bit more of an adrenaline junkie.
